1. JAMES C.2 OLIVER
(SAMUEL1) was born Abt. 1750, and died Oct 7, 1802 in Abbeville, SC. He married (1) MARGARET CHEVERS. He married (2) MARY THOMPSON Abt. 1770. She was born Abt. 1752 in SC.  He is the son of Samuel Oliver and Elizabeth.

Notes for JAMES C. OLIVER:

James Oliver rendered service in the South Carolina Militia as a wagon driver. In 1785, he received a grant of land in the Abbeville District of that state.

Names of 7 of the children are from the will of James Oliver, dated 19 June 1799, recorded 4 March 1803. Two of the children are not named, but are separately mentioned. These two, Jane and Robert, plus Samuel are shown as minors, their guardians being Nathan M. Strickland and his wife , Mary (page 242 "Abstracts of Old Ninty-Six and Abbeville District Wills and Bonds", compiled by Willie Pauline Young).

Also in his will he mentioned Samuel McElvaney possibly husband to another daughter.

William bought land from BLM in St. Clair Co, AL in 1824. Then he bought land in Calhoun Co, AR in 1852 while he lived in Dallas, Polk Co, AR with son, Joseph. He bought more land while in Calhoun Co, AR.

Note: The following information comes from John Rutledge.

James enlisted as a private in Company C, 57th Regiment Georgia Infantry May 8, 1862. He died on May 16, 1863 from wounds received at the Battle of Baker's Creek, Mississippi on May 16, 1863. He served for the Confederate States of America. He was enlisted in Savannah, Ga. by Col. H. Cleveland for a period of three years or the duration of the war. He was paid his $50.00 bounty on July 15, 1862.

Source: Confederate Archives, Chapter 10, File No 4, Page 27: Shows place of birth as Washington, Georgia. Also the following: The 57the Regiment Georgia Infantry was originally known as the 2nd Regiment, Georgia State Troops (Col. Barkuloo). It was mustered into the service of the Confederate States in May, 1862, as Colonel Barkuloo's Regiment and subsequently became the 54th Regiment Georgia Infantry. Early in 1863 this designation was changed to 57the Regiment Georgia Infantry.
