Family Group Sheet

Jesse Squires And Amy Cole

** Note:  A portion of the information I have on Squires and Budd either came from or was verified by  "The Budd Family" Copyright 2001 by Sara M. RevisThe Budd Family is a 27 page (plus ancestor charts) history of the Budd family of New York.  It includes Squires because Joseph  Budd and James Budd married into that family.  It also includes many family traditions and stories.

1. JESSE2 SQUIRES (ASA1) was born Nov 11, 1760 in Fairfield, Fairfield Co, CT, and died Mar 25, 1835 in Hillsdale, Columbia Co, NY. He married AMY COLE Feb 13, 1781 in Columbia Co, NY. She was born Jan 9, 1761, and died Oct 18, 1835 in Hillsdale, Columbia Co, NY.

Notes for JESSE SQUIRES:

Have not verified Asa as Jesse's father and have not found a wife for Asa.  Need to do a lot more research on Jesse Squires.  Have not been able to trace several of his children.

Note: Joseph Budd moved from Rensselaer Co., NY to Orleans Co., NY. He was one of the first settlers of the area and one of the most prominent citizens. He homesteaded a lot of land and then decided there should be a village there so he divided up his land and sold the lots to build the town. He also built a canal from the town to the river which opened up trade all the way to the great lakes. The Squires and the Reeds were also among the first prominent citizens.

1870 Census - Wayne Co, NY - Arcadie - Living with daughter Abby Budd Reed.
The 1850 and 1860 Census lists John Harrington age 8 and 18 with James and Eunice. We can find no evidence that he is a child of James and Eunice. He is probably a servant as on the 1860 he is listed after Caroline Emery who is a servant.

Eunice (Squire) Budd 3/3/1797 - 3/26/1873

Have not found all the children of James Budd and Eunice squires.

(I don't know who the following is.  I don't have a Henrietta in my data base. Could James and Eunice have had a son, James?)

(4) FRANCES JAMIMA BARNEY, Aft. 1871; b. Apr 4, 1834, Glenville, Wayne Co, NY; d. Jan 31, 1897, Murphy, Cherokee Co, NC.

Notes for JESSE SQUIRE BUDD:

Note: Jesse Budd was probably born in Duchess Co. NY although he might have been born in Rensselaer Co., NY. From New York he moved to Michigan, Indiana and Kansas and Wisconsin. Jesse moved to Florida between 1880 and 1890.

Jesse married Elmira Williams in 1848 in Orleans county, NY. She died in childbirth in 1854. Her son Jacob is living with Jesse's sister Abby Reed in 1855, listed as Judson.

Jesse married Amanda Albert in 1856. Amanda died in 1859, again in childbirth. Her son Aaron is living with his grandparents, Peter and Sarah Albert in 1865. Census records say Aaron was born in Michigan and some say Amanda was buried in Indianna. It's certain that Jesse was a traveling man and is hard to trace.

Jesse is married to Ellen in 1870. After we began researching Frances Barney we discovered the 1870 census listing which listed Ellen as Jesse's wife. Ellen should be the mother of Daniel Henry and George Grant and Squire James. Squire and George were born in White Plains, NY and Daniel was born in WI. We have not been able to trace Ellen.

Jesse married for the fourth time to Frances Jamima Barney after 1871. Jesse, Frances and Squire moved to Murphy, NC and he reportedly died there in 1897. After Jesse died, Frances lived in Murphy NC with Squire James and she died there. I have found no reference to either since 1880.

vi. JOSEPH D. BUDD, b. Mar 29, 1830.

Notes for JOSEPH D. BUDD:

From "The Budd Family" Copyright 2001 by Sara M. Revis

"Joseph Budd, born 29 Mar 1830. Left at 15 to go out west saying that they would not hear from him again until he had made his fortune. ... it was assumed he had not survived the rough western camps, although Eunice never gave up hope."
