Family Group Sheet

John Kidd, Jr.  And Sarah Savina Wallace

1. JOHN2 KIDD, JR. (JOHN1) was born 1785 in York Co, SC, and died 1872 in Fairburn, Campbell Co, GA. He married SARAH SAVINA WALLACE Jan 5, 1804 in York Co, SC, daughter of OLIVER WALLACE and JUDITH. She was born 1786 in Charleston, SC, and died 1868 in Fairburn, Campbell Co, GA.

Notes for JOHN KIDD, JR.:

Some sources say John's middle initial is W. and some say it is L. I have seen no primary resources which lists a middle name so I'm leaving it blank.

John was born and raised on South Fishing Creek in York Co, SC. He was the son of John, Sr. and Catherine Ballard although others say his mother was Elizabeth Murphy. He married Sarah Savina Wallace in 1804 and soon after moved to Livingston Co, Kentucky. He established a farm on new land in Kentucky which he operated successfully until an earthquake in 1811/1812 destroyed the farm. At that time John moved his family back to York Co, SC where he raised his family.

About 1831 John moved his family to Coweta Co, GA. Soon afterwards the counties were reorganize and he was placed in Campbell Co.

John Kidd gave land to build Antioch Methodist Church. Even before the church was built, John buried his grandchild, Mary Kidd, in 1836, the first burial in the cemetery.

I can not guarantee that I have all John and Sarah's children and grandchildren sorted out properly.  They had so many!  Many died during the civil war and their widows remarried.  On the 1850 census record John has two children living with him: Robert Kerkis whom I have identified as a son of Minerva, and Rachel Martin whom I have not identified.  I am assuming she is a granddaughter but have not found a Martin!

2. LUCY ANN KIDD (JOHN2, JOHN1) b. 1805, Livingston Co, KY; m. MARION MADISON GRAY.

Notes for LUCY ANN KIDD:

There is a Madison Gray in Campbell Co, GA in 1840. He is living between John Kidd and Oliver Kidd. He is 20/30, wife 20/30 with 3 daughters and one son. Lucy should be 10 years older. There is also a James Gray living two doors from Israel Pannell whose wife is 10 years too old to be Lucy.

In 1850 there is a Manson Gray age 45 married to Lucy 40 in Randolph Co, AL. Their children are: Jane 16, Allend 13, James 12, Melinda 10, Oliver 8, Lucy 6, John 4. This could be the Madison Gray in Campbell Co, GA in 1840. This would mean that Lucy may have been born in 1810 and not 1805 as believed.

Madison Gray bought land in Clay Co, AL while he lived in Randolph Co, AL in 1851. But I could not find him after that.

Notes for MARION MADISON GRAY:

Can not find them on later census records. Not sure of her first husband's first name ( or last name). Found the following marriage:

Rikess, Minerva Watson, James 21 May 1844 Georgia Campbell County

Notes for WILLIAM KERCAS:

William either died or divorced Minerva before 1844. Minerva is married to James Watson in 1850 and has two Watson children. She also has 3 Kircus children living with her as well as one living with her parents.

The following could be a son of Minerva and William. Have not checked it out.

Louise ran off with her cousin who lived on a plantation outside of Rome. They went over into Alabama and he worked in the mines until he was killed in a  mine accident. They had three girls and one died young. They also had two boys who died as babies.

In 1880 Louise is listed in Floyd County, Georgia with her three children, her mother, and siblings. The two boys listed as her sons are evidently the two babies who died. Her daughter Mattie is 5 years old and listed on the 1900 census record for Clay County, Alabama with John B. Haynie. Louise had another daughter and son before she married John Haynie. Vory was born in 1880 and John B. Haynie, Jr. was born in 1882.

Louise married John B. Haynie January 28, 1885. They lived in Clay County, Alabama until her death in 1889.
