Notes for THOMAS COLLIER:

Thomas Collier was born and raised in Randolph Co, NC and he was married there in 1818 to Sarah Morris. Sarah was probably the daughter of George and Adeline Morris. He may have lived in Moore Co, NC for a time as one of his children was born there. Their first four children were born in NC. The next two children were born in 1832 and 1835 in Georgia. The last children were born in Alabama. Have not been able to find Thomas in Alabama in 1840. In 1850 and 1860 he is in Randolph Co, AL. In 1870 he is in Clay Co, AL and in 1880 he and Sarah are living with son, Merrill in Marshall Co, AL.

1850 Randolph Co, AL. Thomas 52, Sally 48, Children: Jesse 21, Esquire 19, Elizabeth 18, Barzellai 15, Martha J. 12, Adeline 9. Thomas, Sally, Jesse, and Esquire were born in NC. Elizabeth and Barzellai born in GA, and Martha J. and Adeline born in AL.

1860 Randolph Co, GA. Thomas 61, Sally 60, Adeline M. 18. Also in HH - Catherine Dowdel 21, domestic housework. Thomas is a farmer with $900 in real property and $200 in personal property. Living next door to B. M. (Burrell Marion) and Barzellai Camp.

1870 Clay Co, AL. Thomas age 71, Sarah 68, Adeline 27.

1880 Marshall Co, AL. In HH of son Merrill. Thomas 82 was b. in NC and stated that his father was born in Scotland and mother in NC. Sarah 77 b. NC and both parents b. NC. Adeline 30.

Thomas purchased a total of 320 acres of land from BLM in 1848, 1861, 1854, and 1860 in Cleburne Co, AL.

Could this Martha be Missouri's older sister? Have not entered the marriage into my database. Need to resolve conflict first.

She married BURRELL MARION CAMP Abt. 1855 in Randolph County, Alabama, son of SEABORN CAMP and AGNES NOLAND. He was born Aug 9, 1834 in Jackson Co., GA, and died Dec 7, 1912 in Marshall Co, AL.

Notes for BARZELLAI COLLIER:

Birdzella (Bird or Barzellai) Collier was born in GA according to the 1850 census for Randolph Co, AL. Bird and Martha J. were born in Georgia. The family moved from NC about 1835 and on to AL about 1838. I can't find the family in 1840 - The closest is a family in Limestone Co, AL but I don't think it is right.

Several researchers think that Barzellai is the daughter of Thomas B. Collier and Mary Dent of Madison Co, AL and the granddaughter of Col. James Collier. Census records do not show a Barzellai for this Thomas B. and records for Thomas and Sarah (Morris) Collier do show Barzellai.

Bird married Burrell Marion Camp about 1855 in Randolph Co, AL and lived there in 1860 but had moved to Heard Co, GA by 1870. By 1880 they were in Marshall Co, AL.

1900 Marion Co. AL, Burrell M. Camp 65, Barzellai 63, daughter, Nancy C. 21 grandson, William J. Winkler. Been married 40 years and had 8 children with all living. Burrell is a farmer and Barzellai is an invalid.

1910 Franklin Co, AL, Burrell M. Camp 75, Barzellai 72, Nancy C. 31. Been married 47 years and had 8 children, all living.

1910 West Huntsville, Madison Co, AL William M. Camp 46. Children: Berzilla 17, Mama 15, Louemma 13. William said he was married for 14 years. A wife is not listed for him. I think he is widowed. He is a ruler in a cotton mill. His three daughters are spinners in the cotton mill.

Mary Agnes Camp was born in 1865 in Heard County, GA. Where she is listed on the 1870 Census record Age 5, in the household of Marion B. Camp. By 1880 the family had moved to Marshall County, Al where she is listed as age 13 in the household of Burrell Kimp (Camp). In 1910 she is listed with her husband, Richard Veal and children in Franklin County, AL. In 1920 she is back in Marshall County with her husband. In 1930 she is listed with her son, Grady Veal.

Richard Veal was born in Chambers Co, AL. He is listed on the 1870 Census age 3 in the household of William H. Veal. In 1880 the family has moved to Randolph Co, AL where he is listed as age 12.

In 1900 - Goddard, Marion Co, AL - Richard A. age 32, Mary A. age 33, Children: John F. 10, Mollie B. 7, Decie B. 4, Maud A. A. 2. They have been married 14 years and have had 5 children with 4 living.

In 1910 he is in Franklin Co, AL with wife and children.

1920 census for Marshall co, AL (Thompsons 18 dist) Richard A. age 52, Mary 52, Children: Henry 18, Grady 17.

In 1930 Richard's wife Mary Agnes is living with their son, Grady and Richard is in Lincoln Co, TN listed as R. A. Vield. He is age 65 and married to Mary age 53. This Mary should be the one Richard's grandchildren called Grandma Bunch (Conn). In 1932 his grandson, Hoyt N. Frasier, wrote a letter to his Grandma Stone and mentioned that he was helping his grandpa Veal farm. He also said Grandma Bunch was running a cafe. The 1930 census does not mention a cafe. Richard is a farmer.

Richmon Veal received 160.7 acres for homestead farm in Franklin County, AL on May 14, 1906.

One source says Richard is buried at Fairview Cemetery, Marshall Co, AL. But I've not been able to find him.

Notes for MARTHA JANE COLLIER:

For awhile we thought that this Martha married William Richard Blackwell. The Martha who married Blackwell was the daughter of Col. James Collier of Madison Co, AL. Also we believed that Thomas B. Collier of Morgan County, AL and the son of Col. James Collier who married Mary Dent was the father of Barzellai Collier. We now know this is not true.
