1. T HOMAS ELBERT3 PATTERSON (JOHN JACKSON2, TRYON1) was born 1825 in Madison Co, GA, and died 1874 in Rome, Floyd Co, GA. He married SARAH SAVINA HELEN KIDD Feb 19, 1851 in Fairborn, Campbell Co., GA, daughter of JOHN KIDD and SARAH WALLACE. She was born Sep 2, 1827 in York Co, SC, and died Jan 24, 1893 in Whitesburg, Carroll Co., GA.Notes for T HOMAS ELBERT PATTERSON:Many years ago we received information that the parents of Thomas Patterson were John Jackson Patterson and Elisha Turnelle and that John's parents were Tryon Patterson and Elizabeth Moore. We have not been able to verify the information. The only John Patterson we have been able to find who could be the father of our Thomas is in DeKalb Co, GA in 1830. This John and his wife are both age 40/50. They have sons (1) 10/15 and (2) 0/5. Their daughters are (1) 15/20, (2) 10/15, (1) 5/10, (1) 0/5. There is a Jesse Patterson living nearby who could be a brother to John. Have not been able to find this John later than 1830 and have not been able to find Thomas before 1960. 1860 Campbell Co, GA. - Living with father-in-law John Kidd. 1870 Campbell Co, GA - Thomas Paterson 45, Sarah 41, Children: Ophelia 17, Cissaro 16, James 14, John 12, Lou 10, Thomas 8, Georgia 6, Jerome 4, Allice 2. Ruth's date and location of birth are uncertain. In 1910 she is living with her half-brother in Cullman, AL. About 1915-1918 Ruth went to live with her cousin Ida Haynie Weir in Marshall Co, AL. Ida and her husband Willie Weir placed Ruth in the Snead Boarding School for girls where she received an education and later stayed as an employee. At first she came home during the summer but later she stayed at the school to act as caretaker during the summer. In 1926 when Ida was expecting her last child the Doctor told Willie that he didn't expect Ida to survive. Ruth asked Willie what he would do with the children if Ida died. He told her he would put them in the orphanage in Cullman Co, AL. Ruth applied for employment at the orphanage and moved. Ida survived but Ruth died of cancer just a few months later. 1910 Ruth Hill age 17 living with half-brother John McKenzie in Cullman Co, AL. I believe John McKenzie overstated Ruth's age by about 6 years. In 1920 she is 21. Perhaps he wanted people to think she was older. A local doctor reported to Ruth's cousin, Ida Haynie Weir that Ruth was being treated like a slave. Ida immediately hitched up the buggy and brought Ruth home to live with her. 1920 Ruth Hill age 21. 6. L OUISE C.4 PATTERSON (THOMAS ELBERT3, JOHN JACKSON2, TRYON1) was born Mar 13, 1859 in Fairburn, Campbell Co, GA, and died Aug 14, 1889 in Clay Co. AL. She married (1) PATTERSON Abt. 1873. She married (2) JOHN BOYD HAYNIE Jan 28, 1885 in Calhoun Co, AL, son of GEORGE HAYNIE and ELIZABETH RODDAN. He was born Feb 16, 1834 in Anderson Co, SC, and died Apr 3, 1910 in Clay Co., AL.Notes for L OUISE C. PATTERSON:Mama (Louise Weir Frasier) says that Louise Patterson lived in Rome, Ga where her family ran a mercantile store. She ran off with her cousin who lived on a plantation outside of Rome. They went over into Alabama and he worked in the mines until he was killed in a mine accident. They had three girls and one died young. Mama Weir told Mama that they also had two boys who died as babies and are buried in Valley Head Alabama. Louise Patterson was born in Campbell County, Georgia in 1859. She died in 1889 in Clay County, Alabama. The birth and death dates are from the Haynie family bible. She is listed on the 1860 census record as a child of Thomas E. and Sarah Kidd Patterson in Campbell Co, GA. They are still in Campbell County in 1870. In 1880 Louise is listed in Floyd County, Georgia with three children, her mother, and siblings. The two boys listed as her sons are evidently the two babies who died. Her daughter Mattie is 5 years old and listed on the 1900 census record for Clay County, Alabama with John B. Haynie. Louise had another daughter and son before she married John Haynie. Vory was born in 1880 and John B. Haynie, Jr. was born in 1882. Louise married John B. Haynie January 28, 1885. They lived in Clay County, Alabama until her death in 1889. **Note. Mama said Vora and Mandy were twins! Notes for J OHN BOYD HAYNIE:John B. Haynie was born Feb. 16, 1834 in South Carolina. (Family Bible, 1900 Census of Clay Co. Alabama.) He married Mary A. York Oct. 4, 1854 in Calhoun Co. Alabama. (Family Bible, Marriage liscense) He married Louise C. Patterson January 28, 1885 in Calhoun Co, AL (Marraige Liscense) He died April 3, (1901 Family Bible) (April 3, 1910 death certificate) other sources suggest 1907 or 1909. In 1840 John Haynie is listed as a child under 5 in household of George Haynie in Anderson Co, SC. In 1850 he is listed in household of George Haynie in Benton Co., Alabama and in 1860 he is married to Mary A. and living in Calhoun Co which replaced Benton. In 1860 he has a son, John Wesley 2 years old but no other reference has been found so he probably died. In 1880 John is living in Floyd County, Georgia with his mother and children. He is listed as married but Mary had died in 1876. He is living very close to Louise Patterson. He is listed as disabled. The 1900 census for Clay county Alabama shows John B Haynie - 66 years old, born in 1834 in S. Carolina. He is living with Mattie L. born 1872 listed as daughter. George L. born 1885, son and Ida B. born 1888, daughter. All children born in Alabama. Also in the 1900 census for Clay co. John B Haynie, Jr. is living with his half brother, Eugene Haynie. John Haynie's son John B. Haynie, Jr. listed his name as John Boyd Haynie, Jr. on his Social Security application therefore his father's name must also be John Boyd Haynie. Civil War Pension Application An Ellen Haynie filed for a pension based on John's service in 1910. She said she was his widow. We have never heard of him marrying again after Louise died. His daughter Ida never mentioned another wife although he visited her often. The pension was approved but later withdrawn. I think it was a scam. 1880 Baker's Dist, Floyd Co, GA. John B. Apr 25, 1940, Lincoln Co., TN.DA BEATRICE HAYNIE: Ida B. Haynie is first mentioned in the 1900 census record of Alabama. She was living with her father John B. Haynie in Foxcreek district of Clay county. She was 12 years old, born in Feb. 1888. Ida Haynie was only about 15 yrs. old when she and her brother George left her father in Clay County Alabama and went to Marshall Co to live near her sister Mattie who had married and left Clay County. Ida and George rented a small farm. She soon married Cisero Garrard and George married his sister Zacky. In the 1910 Census record of Alabama she is living with her husband, William H. Weir in Marshall Co, Alabama. She is 22 years old, been married less than a year and has had one child. Her daughter, Lillian is listed as 3 years old and the stepdaughter of William Weir. The Haynie Family Bible states that: DA BEATRICE HAYNIE: Burial: Flintville Cemetary, Flintville, Lincoln Co, TN Notes for W ILLIAM HUGH WEIR:William H. Weir was born Frbruary 25, 1872 in Carroll County, Georgia. By 1880 the family had moved to Clebourne County, Alabama where he is shown on the Census as 8 yrs. old. His family is living next door to his uncle John B. Weir. He is listed on the 1900 Census of Marshall Co Alabama living with his parents. He is 27 years old, born in Feb. 1873 and a widower. He is listed on the 1910 Census of Marshall Co Alabama as head of household. He has been married less than a year and it is his 3rd marriage. (This is probably a mistake as no one who knew him seemed to know of a third marriage). He did marry Dora Stonicher in Dec. 1897 and she died a few months later in May 1898. In 1910 he is living with his wife Ida B. and stepdaughter Lillian who was 3 years old. In 1927 or 1928 William H. Weir moved his family to Flintville, Tennessee (Lincoln county) because schools were free. In Alabama every child paid tuition and with a growing family it could be a problem. He died April 25, 1940 of skin cancer. He is buried at Flintville Cemetary, Flintville, Tennessee. 1910 Marshall Co, AL William H. Weir 38, Ida B. 22, Lillian A. Garrard 3 - step daughter.
