On this 18 day of August , A. D. one thousand
eight hundred and ninety (2) two personally appeared before me a
Notary Public within and for the county and State aforesaid Mrs.
Roda A. Frasier a resident of Albertville , in the county
of Marshall, in the State of Ala., who, being by me first duly
sworn according to law, deposes and says:
That she is the widow of Levi Frasier, who served
under the name of Levi Frasier, as a private volunteer in the
company commanded by Captain Armstrong to the best of her knowledge in
the _____ regiment of (don't remember), commanded by (don't
remember ) , in the war with Seminole Indians in the year
1837-1838. that her said husband enlisted at Lebanon Ala , on or
about 15th day of Nov, A. D. 1837, for the term of six
months; that she was married under the name of Roda A. Minnix to her
said husband, by Jessie Graham, on or about the 22 day of Nov.
A. D. 1840, at Winchester, Tenn. in the State of
Tennessee and lived with her said husband from the date of he said marriage
until the day of his death, to wit: the 31st day of Oct. A. D.
1890, when her said husband died at his home Marshall Co, in the
State of Alabama, there being no legal barrier to such marriage; that
neither she nor her husband had been previously married, except that (neither
been married before); that she has not since remarried.
No. 1 That her said husband, being duly enlisted as
aforesaid, actually served thirty DAYS with the Army or Navy of the United
Sates, in the war as above state, which service was as follows:
Private to the best of my Knowledge in Captain Armstrong Company and
was honorably discharged at Somewhere in the State of Fla. May A. D.
1838.
No. 2 That her said husband was personally named in a
resolution of Congress for the specific service in said war, to wit: In
the resolution of _______ day of _________, A. D. __________ and was honorably
discharged at in Florida, on the _______day of May ,
A. D. 1838.
That her said husband has never served in the Army, Navy, or
Marine Corps of the United States, otherwise than as above stated, except
has not been in any other war.
That she has not heretofore made application for
pension or bounty land ______________________
That since the death of her husband she has resided at the
following places, to wit: in Marshall County, Ala..
That she makes this declaration for the purpose of being
placed on the pension-roll of the United States under the provision of the act
of July _____, 1892.
That she hereby appoints H. J. Hayden & Co of
Washington D. C. her lawful attorney to prosecute this claim

CLAIM OF WIDOW FOR BOUNTY LAND
State of Alabama, County of Marshall, SS.
On this 9th day of Sept. A.D. one thousand eight hundred and
ninety two, personally appeared before me, W. J. McCord a Notary Public, the
same being a court of record within and for the county and state aforesaid,
Rhoda A. Frasier, aged 79 years, a resident of Albertville, in the State of
Alabama, who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow
of Levi Frasier deceased, who was the identical Levi Frasier, who served under
the name of Levi Frasier as a private in the company commanded by Captain
Armstrong in the _____ regiment of Alabama Vols commanded by General Jessup, in
the war of 1837-8 with Seminoles; that her said husband enlisted at Lebanon, Ala
on or about 15 day of Nov, A. D. 1837, for a term of 6 mos., and continued in
actual service in said war for the term of 6 months or more, and whose services
terminated, by reason of muster out, discharged, at Florida, on the about 15th
day of May, A. D. 1838. She further states that the following is a full
description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: Age 21,
height 5 ft 9 1/2 inches, color of hair black, eyes blue, complexion fair,
occupation farmer. She further states that she was married to the said
Levi Frasier, at the city (or town) of Winchester in the county of __________,
and in the State of Tennessee, on the 22 day of Nov., A. D. 1840 by one Jessie
Graham who was a Babtist (sic) minister; and that her name before her said
marriage was Rhoda Minnix; and she further sates that said Levi was never
married prior to his marriage to her and she was never married prior to her
marriage to him and that her said husband Levi Frasier, died at Marshall Co, in
the State of Alabama, on the 31 day of Oct. A. D. 1890; and she further declares
that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said
husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz: In Jackson, DeKalb,
and Marshall County ever since Marshall Co, Ala. She makes this
declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land (or the additional
bounty land) to which she may be entitled under the act approved March 3, 1955,
and hereby appoints H. J. Hayden & Co. of Washington, D. C. , her true and
lawful Attorneys to prosecute her claim; and she further declares that she has
heretofore made no application for land nor pension and that her residence is
city (or town) of Albertville, county o Marshall State of Alabama, and that her
post office address is Albertville, Alabama.

state aforesaid, the Claimant, who being duly sworn, according to law, states in
relation to the above named claim as follows: That her said husband
enlisted as a private in Company of Capt Armstrong Regiment
Ala. Seminole War Volunteers on or about the 15 day of November , 1837
and was discharged on or about the 15th day of May , 1838. That he
was not employed in the Military or Naval service otherwise than sated
above.
That he was not married prior to his marriage to me and I was not married
prior to my marriage to him. That her husband's personal description at
enlistment was as follows: age 21 height 5 feet 9 in. color o hair
black eyes blue complexion fair occupation farmer when was he born. Oct.
31st day 1820
That pension was not heretofore applied for.

believe, from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her,
that she is the identical person she represents herself to by; and they further
say that they are able to identify her as the person who was the wife of the
identical (17) Levi Frasier , who rendered the service alleged in the above
application (in the company of Captain Armstrong, in the regiment of Alabama
Vols. in the war of 1837-8 ) by the following named facts and circumstances, viz:

In the matter of the pension claim of Rhoda A. Frasier widow
of Levi Frasier Ala Vols Seminole war personally appeared before me a Clerk
Circuit Court within and for the county and state aforesaid J. N. Franklin aged
68 yeas; and N. H. Poe age 69 year; residents of Fort Payne, county of DeKalb,
and state of Alabama, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit,
and who being duly sworn according to law, states in relation to the above named
claim as follows:
That we were well and intimately acquainted with the said
soldier Levi Frasier and served in the same company with him in the army and
know that he claimed the said Rhoda A. Frasier to be his wife, and was married
to her according to usual customs and that they lived and cohabitated together
as husband and wife up to 31 Oct 1890 when the said soldier died.
And we further know that the parties aforesaid were always
recognized and regarded as husband and wife by the community in which they
resided, just as much so, as if they had been married according to the custom of
white people, and we also know they the said widow Rhoda A. Frasier, has not
re-married since the death of said soldier, but has remained a widow all this
time and that she is poor and dependent upon her own labor for support. We
know these facts from an intimate personal acquaintance with both parties
aforesaid ever since The year 1836. We were not at his funereal but
have been at his widows house since his death and are satisfied from all
circumstances that he is dead.

state aforesaid John P. Kennedy aged ________ years, a resident of
near Albertville County of Marshall state of Alabama, who, being duly
sworn according to law, deposes and says:
I have known Levi Frasier husband of Rhoda A. Frasier for thirty years before
his death. I lived nabor (sic) to them the most of the time. They
rased (sic) a large family of children and he was always called and was
known as Levi Frasier. Never heard him of him going by any other name
except Levi
Mrs. Rhoda A. Frasier is very old and is in very poor health.

In the matter of the pension claim No 318 of Rhoda
widow of Levi Frasier Ala Vols personally appeared before me a Notary
Public within and for the county and state aforesaid, Rhoda Frasier aged 68
yeas; a resident of near Albertville , County of Marshall, and sate of
Alabama, well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit and who being
duly sworn according to law, sates in relation to the above named claim as
follows.
That I cannot prove the date and fact of said soldiers
marriage by a verified copy of any public record, or church record, or any other
reco5rd for the following reasons:
The reason I can not prove our marriage is stated we were married near
Winchester Tenn about year 1840 by Rev. Jessie Graham and I do not know where
the witnesses are and the record shows that my husband bought the license (????)
they were returned.
That I cannot prove the date and fact of said soldiers death
by the affidavit of an attending physician for the following reasons:

That I cannot prove the marriage by the affidavit of the
person who performed the ceremony, or other eye witnesses to the ceremony for
the following reasons: As above sated I hear that they are all moved to
Texas.
That said soldier was not married prior to his marriage to me
That I was not married prior to my marriage to said soldier.
That no prior application for pension was ever made.

in the County of Marshall and Sate of Alabama well known to me to be reputable
and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to
aforesaid case as follows:
My husband (?) and correct name was Levi Frasier and he has always went by
that name ever since I first met him.

On this 11th day of April A. D. 1893, personally appeared
before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized o
administer oaths John M. Roden aged 67 years, a resident of near
Albertville in the county of Masrhall and state of Alabama well known to
me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declared in
relation to aforesaid case as follows:
I have personally known Mrs. Rhoda A. Frasier for
fifty-two years. I have lived near neighbor to her most of this time.
Her maiden name was Rhoda A. Minix, In the year 1842 I heard that they
were married. I know that (every ? ? ) that yeas they have
lived together and have been all that time recognized in the community as man
and wife and they have to my knowledge raised ten children and I know that Levi
Frasier has never lived with or claimed any other woman for his wife. I
have heard him often say that he served in the Indian Wars.
His Post Office address is Albertville, Ala.
I further declare that I have no interest in (? this ?)
case and am not concerned in it prosecution.

Albertville in the County of Marshall and State of Alabama well known to me to
be reputable and en titled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in

I was with Levi Frasier during his sickness and saw him
die. Also saw him burried.

and further declares: I have no interest in said and am not concerned in its
prosecution

On this 3rd day of April A. D. 1893, personally appeared
before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid county and duly authorized
to administer oaths, W. S. Roden aged 62 years, a resident of P.O. Martling, Ala
in the county of Marshall and State of Alabama well known to me to be reputable
and entitles to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to
aforesaid case as follows:
I have personally known Mrs. Rhoda A. Frasier for fifty
years. When I first knew her she was Miss Rhoda A. Minnix. She has
lived near neighbor to me for forty-five years. Levi Frasier and her lived
together as man and wife and were so considered by all the neighbors in the
community. I testify that they lived as such for at least forty years and
during that time they raised ten children to my knowledge. Several of
their children are now living near me. I have heard Mr. Levi Frasier speak
of serving in the Indian War. I do not know of nor never heard of him
living with any other woman as his wife.

He further declares that he has no interest in said case and
is no concerned in its prosecution

of Levy Frazier of Capt. Armstrong's company Alabama Vol. was incorrect.

State aforesaid, Rhoda Frasier, aged 72 yeas, a resident of the ______of
near Albertville, county of Marshall, Sate of Alabama, who being duly sworn
according to law, deposes and says:
My husband's true name was Levi Frasier and always went by
that name and no other. I am able to prove by as many witnesses as may be
necessary that that was his name and only name. We were married near
Winchester, Tenn. and Abner Minnix and Jessie Graham went after the license.
I know the mistake was made by the clerk who issued the license because the
parties who went gave them (Frezer?) my husband name.
I am a very poor woman and need the pension very much.
I have been sick some time.

On this 18 day of Sept, 1894, at Peters, County of Marshall,
State of Alabama, before me, A B. Parkey, a Special Examiner of the Pension
Office, personally appeared Roda A. Frasier, who, being by me first duly sworn
to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to her during this Special
Examination of aforesaid pension claim, deposes and says: My age is 72
years. Occupation housekeeper, residing and P.O. address Albertville,
Marshall County, Ala.
I am the widow of Levi Frasier who was a soldier in the
Indian war and a private in Capt. Armstrong's Company, Ala Vols. and
(?). I do not know date of enlistment and discharge, but my husband
enlisted for six months, and I suppose he served for that length of time.
My husband died Oct 31, 1889 at my home. The cause of
death was heart failure. I was married with the soldier Oct 26, 1840 near
Winchester, Tenn. by an old minister, Baptist preacher, Jessie Graham.
Thee is a record of the same which has been filed (acready - accordingly?).
I was married to my husband in the name of Levi Frasier. If it was Eli
Frasier it is wrong because I can not be mistaken about his name being Levi.
I was married under the name of Roda A. Minnix. I have
remained the widow of the soldier since his death.
I was never married before I married the soldier. I was
only about sixteen years of age when I married the soldier. My husband had
not been married before he married me. I he had ever been married I never
heard of it. I had known him about two years when I married him. My
husband told me that he was twenty three yeas old when I married him.
I was born and lived until I was 12 yeas old in Kentucky.
My father then moved with his family to Jackson County, Ala. I run away to
get married. My husband was raised and lived in Wills Valley, DeKalb Co,
Ala. We lived about 30 miles apart. There was several present when
we were married. Old Betsy Rickles and two daughters, Jesse Graham and his
family. We were married right near the Tennessee line. I do not know
where any of these parties live but they all went to Texas a good many years
ago.
I never heard my husband called anything but Levi and Lee
Frasier. He was married under the name of Levi. I can not be
mistaken. When I first became acquainted with my husband before I married
him I heard him tell about what took place while he was a soldier. Thomas
Scott and Elijah Slaton were with my husband in the service. I do not know
their P. O. address.
(Guteen?) Graham Holder, Indian Territory served in the same
Regt with my husband and could positively identify my husband as the soldier of
record. He knew both myself and husband before we were married and had
known us since.
My husband was granted bounty land of 80 acres. This
was about 40 yeas ago.
W. S. Roden, Peters, Ala, and John M. Roden, Albertville, Ala
knew both myself and husband before and since our marriage and can identify me
as the widow of the soldier.
Will not be present during this examination. Have heard
read the foregoing. Answers correctly recorded.

On this 18th day of Sept., 1894, at Albertville, County
of Marshall State of Alabama, before me, A. B. Parkey, a Special Examiner of the
Pension Office, personally appeared John M. Roden, who, being by me first duly
sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this Special
Examination of aforesaid pension claim, deposes and says: My age is 68
years, occupation farmer, residing and P.O. address albertville, Ala. I am
well acquainted with the claimant and was with her late husband Levi Frasier.
I became acquainted with claimant in the spring of 1838, and with her husband in
the fall of 1849. I knew them both before either were married. This
first marriage was to each other. Claimant's maiden name was Minix.
I was not a witness to Levi Frasier's service but I saw him
on his way home from the service. I was not acquainted with soldier at the
time but I knew that he was the man later when I did become acquainted with him.
I have often beard Mr. Frasier say that he was in the Indian War, and I have
often heard Lt. Co. Coffee and Col. Ben Snodgrass say that Levi Frasier was a
member of their command. I was very well acquainted with both Col.
Snodgrass and Lt. Col. Coffee. They are both now dead.
I have understood that claimant's husband was granted bounty
land.
I never heard the soldier called any other name than Levi
Frasier. Never heard him called "Eli" in my life.
I am unab le to give the exact date of soldier's death, but
he has been dead some four or five days (**Note:I think it should be years).
I have no interest in this claim for pension.
Have heard read the foregoing statements and my answers have
been correctly recorded.

On this 18 day of Sept., 1894, at Peters, County
of Marshall State of Alabama, before me, A. B. Parkey, a Special Examiner of the
Pension Office, personally appeared William A. Roden, who, being by me first
duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this
Special Examination of aforesaid pension claim, deposes and says: My age
is 63 years, occupation farmer residing and P. O. address Martling,
Marshall County, Ala.
I am well acquainted with Roda A. Frasier, the claimant.
I have known her since I was a child. I knew her (?) before she was (?)
married. She is the widow of Levi Frasier. Mr. Frasier died in the
fall of 1889 about the last of October, 1889. My wife had been in the
asylum and I brought her home just after Mr. Frasier's death. I saw Mr.
Frasier after death and was at his burial. I had known him ever since I
was a boy. When I got acquainted with him he was living with this claimant
as her husband. Claimant's maiden name was Roda A. Minnix, and she had
never been married before she married Levi Frasier. I have understood that
they were married in Tennessee.
I never heard claimants husband called anything but Levi
Frasier. I never knew or heard of an Eli Frasier. I have heard and
understood that Levi Frasier, claimant's husband, was an Indian war soldier ever
since I have known him. I have often heard Levi Frasier talk about being
in the Indian war, and there was never any doubt in my mind that claimants
husband was an Indian war soldier. I have lived a neighbor to claimant and
her husband ever since they were married. I have understood that claimants
husband was granted a bounty land warrant for his service in the Indian War.
Claimant has remained a widow since the death of her husband
and I have no doubt at all and that claimant's husband was a soldier as claimed.
I have no interest in this claim. I have heard read the foregoing.
It is correct.

I am a son of claimant and Levi Frasier.
I have always understood that my father was a soldier in the
Indian war. His commander was Gen. Jessup. My father was granted a
bounty land warrant of 80 acres. My father traded the land warrant for a
mare. He traded the land warrant to the widow (Martha Card?). I have
heard my father often talk of his service in the Indian War, and there is no
doubt in the world but that my father was the soldier as alleged. I never
heard my father called anything but Levi. I have always understood that my
father was never married except to mother. I have always understood that
my mother had no husband except my father.
My mothers maiden name was Roda A. Minnix.
I have only a son's interest in the pension.
I have heard read the foregoing statement and my answers have
been correctly recorded.

Deponent noticed that it is stated by claimant that soldier died Oct. 31, 1889,
while in the application it is stated that soldier died Oct. 31, 1890.
Which is correct? October 31, 1889 is correct. The mistake was
discovered after the application was filed but we thought it would make no
difference. I was present when my father died and am positive of the date,
Oct. 31, 1889. No interest. the foregoing is correctly written.
