I have not been able to directly connect Levi Frasier with any
parents. This is the page I will use to collect circumstantial evidence.
I will be adding data ( and speculation) as the mood strikes. Visit this page
again! Levi Frasier was born in 1819 in Tennessee -
from census records and Rhoda's pension papers. His father and mother were
born in NC. In her pension papers, Rhoda said that Levi
grew up in Wills Valley - that's in DeKalb Co. She said that they were
married in 1840 in Winchester, TN and that she had known him for about two
years. She said they ran away to get married; but, in one place she said
her father, Abner Minnix went to get the marriage license. I figure that Levi's family must have lived in Tennessee during the 1820 census. And they must have moved to Alabama before November 1837. Lebanon, where Levi was mustered into the Army, was where the Army was stationed. They later built a fort - Fort Payne. If Levi lived in DeKalb County, why didn't he enlist at Lebanon instead of Bellafonte, County Seat of Jackson County, Alabama? The land for Jackson County was ceded by the
Indians in 1819 and Jackson became a county December 1819. The land for
DeKalb County was ceded by the Indians in 1835 and DeKalb became a county
January 1836. The Bureau of Land management opened up land in Jackson County for purchase in 1831. The Fraziers who bought land in 1831 when the land first opened up were:
Charles Frazier was the only one who said he lived in Tennessee (Franklin county). All the others said they were residents of Jackson County, Alabama. Charles, George and Mathew bought land in the same general area - T1/R4 - T2/R4 - T3/R4. Range 4, Township 1 and 2 are in the area of Estilfork in the NW part of Jackson Co. I believe that Charles and George are brothers - sons of Robert Thompson Frazier of Surrey Co, NC and Warren Co, TN. In 1839 Richard Frazier (may be son of Charles) bought land in the same area. In 1859 Samuel who may be the son of George also bought land there. I've found no other reference to this Richard. In the 1840 census for Jackson County, on the same page are listed: Charles, Richard, Solomon, and Archibald. I believe that Richard, Solomon, and Archibald are sons of Charles. I have not found any other reference to Richard or Archibald. Township 3 Range 4 is just a little south of there around Little Nashville. That's where Mathew bought land in 1831. In 1854 and 1858 Levi Frazier bought land there. Also Nancy Frazier (Possibly nee Ball, and widow of George) bought land there in 1858. I've found no other reference to Mathew. Arthur Frazier bought land around what is now the town of Paint Rock in SW part of the county. In 1848 Alexander who I think is Arthur's son bought land there. Arthur came to Jackson county directly from North Carolina without making a stop in Tennessee to have a son in 1820. Joseph P., Abner, and Mary bought land just south of Scottsboro. They are of the family of Samuel W. Frazier from NC and then from Green and Knox Counties Tennessee. Samuel W. Frazier was a politician in TN - helped write the state constitution and signed it. His son Samuel W. married Mary Parks and Joseph Parks Frazier is their son. Abner is brother to Samuel W. who married Mary Parks. In DeKalb County around Lebanon there's a family of Fraziers who came from NC to SC then to GA and into Alabama. The father, James died in SC. The Mother is Darcus with sons, Robert, John, Patrick, and David. There are four Fraziers in Jackson and DeKalb counties
during 1820-1850 that I have not been able to guess at a family relationship. Help! |
