Levi Charles Frasier And Rhoda Ann Minnix

1. LEVI CHARLES1 FRASIER was born 1819 in TN, and died Oct 31, 1889 in Marshall Co, AL. He married RHODA ANN MINNIX Oct 26, 1840 in Franklin Co, TN, daughter of ABNER MINNIX and HANNAH RENFRO. She was born Jun 1823 in Garrard Co, KY, and died Sep 13, 1904 in Marshall Co, AL.

Notes for LEVI CHARLES FRASIER:

The 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 census shows Levi in Marshall Co, AL.  He purchases 40 acres in 1854 from BLM and another 40 acres in 1858 - both parcels in Jackson Co, AL.  He was granted a land patent for service in the Indian War.  He traded that land for a mule and later applied for an additional land patent under a later authorization.  Rhoda received a pension based on Levi's service in the Indian War.

In Rhoda's pension application she said that when Levi enlisted for the Indian War he was  21 years old, 5' 91/2" tall, had black hair and blue eyes.  His complexion was fair and his occupation was farmer.

We've not found Levi's parents yet.  We are still searching.

Notes for RHODA ANN MINNIX:

1900 Census - Marshall Co, AL living with grandson Nathaniel Burt.

Research report from Sherman Isbell > Janelle Cobb > Belle Dean > Carrie Smith.

Rody Frasier was received by experience and baptism July 1, 1860 (does not say which church). She withdrew and joined Concord Church Nov 5, 1870. She brought a complaint against Sister Slaton because of rumors she was spreading. Sister Slaton repented and was restored May 6, 1871.

Reprint of article from "The Marshall Banner, March 15, 1900. "Grandma Rhoda Frasier came in to renew subscription for herself and son, John in Almond, Arkansas."

Rhoda applied for a pension based on Levi Frasier's service in the Indian Wars.

From Shirley Davidson, Gadsden, AL. "Mertie Painter married Hubert Frazier son of John Franklin and Lizzie (Colvin) Frazier. (John F. Frazier was the only son of Levi Frazier, Jr. and Eliza Jane Sloan. Hubert and Mertie Painter Frazier's daughter Pearlie Mae is my husbands mother. My husband is the illegitimate son of Ambris Skinner Painter. (Ambris is the spelling given, further research leads me to believe his name was Ambrose). Hubert killed Ambris 7 mos before Charles was born (Hubert pulled the trigger but John Franklin was in on it). He didn't spend much time with his mother until after he was eight years old and she married a Davidson and that is where we got our surname."

10. THOMAS NATHANIEL2 FRASIER (LEVI CHARLES1) was born Feb 1860 in Marshall Co, AL, and died Jun 1888 in Marshall Co., AL. He married MARY MAGDELINE SLATON Oct 22, 1885 in Marshall Co., AL, daughter of HENRY SLATON and SARAH CRANFORD. She was born Jun 19, 1869 in Marshall Co., AL, and died Mar 31, 1958 in Marshall Co., AL.

Notes for THOMAS NATHANIEL FRASIER:

Thomas Nathaniel Frasier was born in 1859 in Marshall Co, AL. He is listed as Thomas N., age 4 mos on the 1860 census. He is listed as Nathaniel, age 11 on the 1870 census and Nathaniel age 20 on the 1880 census.

The marriage license for Thomas Nathaniel Frasier and Mary Magdelene Slaton lists him as Charles N. Frasier. Mollie Slaton Frasier Stone called him Nate. She said his name was Thomas Nathaniel and she named his son Thomas Nathaniel. I believe that the original license was hard to read and when it was re-written for distribution it was misread.

Mollie Stone also said he was of Scottish descent. She met him when he returned home after visiting family in Texas. She was present at a party where he played the fiddle and she mentioned his 'dashing figure and flashing eyes'. They ran away to get married but her father and brothers caught them and brought them back. Her father whipped her with his belt for running away. Then he agreed that they could marry even though she was only 16 years old.

Thomas Nathaniel died of typhoid in 1888. He is buried at Shoal Creek Cemetery in Marshall County, Alabama.

Burial: 1888, Shoal Creek Cemetery, Marshall Co, Al

Mary Magdelene Slaton (Mollie) was born in 1869, Marshall Co, AL where she is listed on the census records for 1870, 1900, 1910, and 1930. In 1880 she is in De Kalb Co, AL with her parents. Mollie was married in 1885 to Thomas Nathaniel Frasier. Her marriage license lists him as Charles N. Frasier. I believe this is a mistake. She named her first son Thomas Nathaniel.

She married (second) Asa Tillman Stone in 1894. On the 1930 census she is living with her youngest son, W. Henry Stone. She died in 1958.

More About MARY MAGDELINE SLATON:

Burial: New Cannon Cemetery, Marshall Co, AL

Marriage Notes for THOMAS FRASIER and MARY SLATON:

Notes for THOMAS NATHANIEL FRASIER:

Thomas Nathaniel Frasier was born to Thomas Nathaniel and Mary Magdeline (Slaton) Frasier on November 4, 1887, in Albertville, Marshall County, Alabama. Although his father's death is listed as 1888, his mother said he was born a few months after his fathers death from typhoid. T.N. had only one eye. When he was 12 years old he put fire crackers in a hollow log and closed it up. He lit the fuse which was not quite long enough and the log exploded and a piece hit his eye and destroyed it.

He was in general good health until the last couple of years when dementia crept in. He loved fox hunting although his daughter in law, Louise Weir Frasier said he didn't really hunt. He only went out into the woods to get away from Mollie for awhile.

He married Mollie Belle Veal in 1909 in Franklin County, Alabama. He lived on land left to him by his father until he bought a farm in DeKalb County, Alabama (Rainsville) in 1936. He died in DeKalb County, Alabama August 24, 1979 and is buried in Town Creek Cemetary.
